MyQRMed FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Find answers about MyQRMed QR medical IDs, medical alert bracelets, necklaces, dog tags, setup, scanning, subscriptions, NDIS ordering, privacy, delivery and support.

MyQRMed IDs are designed to make key medical information easier to access when it may be difficult to explain it yourself. The person scanning your QR code does not need an app or account — they scan with a phone camera and the profile opens in a browser.

No app needed to scan

The person scanning your MyQRMed ID does not need the MyQRMed app. A modern phone camera can scan the QR code and open the profile in a browser.

No subscription

MyQRMed is a one-time purchase. Your online profile is included, with no subscription or yearly membership fee.

Update anytime

You can update your profile online when medications, allergies, contacts or care details change.

More than engraving

A QR medical ID can show more detail than a few engraved words, including conditions, medications, allergies and emergency contacts.

QR scanning and emergency access

Do people need an app to scan my MyQRMed ID?

No. The person scanning your MyQRMed ID does not need an app, account or login. A modern smartphone camera can scan the QR code and open the profile in a browser.

Who can scan my QR code?

Anyone with access to the physical QR code can scan it using a phone camera. This may include a responder, nurse, doctor, carer, family member, support worker or bystander.

Can paramedics scan a QR medical ID?

Yes, if they have access to the physical QR code and a phone or device that can scan it. A MyQRMed QR medical ID is designed to make key information easier to access when someone cannot explain it clearly.

Can hospital staff scan it?

Yes. Hospital staff, nurses, doctors or administrative staff can scan the QR code with a phone camera or compatible device if they need to view the profile.

Can a bystander scan it?

Yes. Anyone who can physically access the QR code can scan it. This is why you should only include information you are comfortable making available to someone who scans your ID.

What does the person scanning see?

They can see the information you have chosen to add to your MyQRMed profile. This may include conditions, medications, allergies, emergency contacts, care team details, communication needs and additional notes.

Can the person scanning edit my profile?

No. Scanning the QR code opens the view-only profile. The person scanning does not get access to edit your profile.

Does the person scanning need to log in?

No. The person scanning does not need to log in, create an account or use the MyQRMed app.

What happens if there is no phone signal?

A QR medical profile needs internet to load, so in the rare spot with no mobile signal or Wi-Fi it may not open straight away — though responders and clinics almost always have access. Some people pair a QR ID for the full profile with one short engraved cue as a no-tech backup.

Is the QR code permanent?

Yes. The QR code is permanently engraved onto the MyQRMed product. Your online profile can be updated, but the physical QR code stays the same.

Does the QR code change when I update my profile?

No. The same QR code points to your profile. When you update your information online, the profile shown through that QR code updates.

Can the QR code be scanned overseas?

In most cases, yes, as long as the person scanning has a phone camera and internet access. MyQRMed is Australian-owned, but the QR code opens through a web browser.

Profile setup and updates

How do I activate my MyQRMed ID?

Create or sign in to your MyQRMed account, then follow the activation instructions included with your product. Once activated, your QR code links to the correct profile.

Can I use the web portal instead of the app?

Yes. You can manage your MyQRMed profile through the web portal. The app may be useful for setup and updates, but the person scanning your ID does not need the app.

Can I update my medical information later?

Yes. You can sign in anytime and update your conditions, medications, allergies, emergency contacts, care team details or notes. The update appears through the same QR code.

Can I update medications after purchase?

Yes. You can update your medication list anytime. This is one of the key benefits of a QR medical ID compared with an engraved ID.

Can I add allergies and reactions?

Yes. You can add allergies and relevant reaction details, such as medication allergies, food allergies or other important allergy information.

Can I add doctors, specialists or care team contacts?

Yes. You can include care team details if you choose to add them. This may include a GP, specialist, carer, support contact or other relevant person.

Can I add communication or support notes?

Yes. You can add notes that may help someone understand communication needs, disability-related support needs or other important care information.

Can I link more than one product to one profile?

Yes. This is useful if you have a bracelet, necklace, dog tag, watch band ID, wallet card or sticker that should all point to the same profile.

Can I have more than one profile in a family?

Yes, different people should have separate profiles so each QR code shows the right person’s information.

Can I set up a profile for someone else?

You can help set up a profile for a family member, participant or person you support, but the information should be accurate and authorised by the person or their decision-maker where appropriate.

What if I make a mistake in my profile?

Sign in and update the information. Changes can be made online, so you do not need to replace or re-engrave your MyQRMed product when details change.

What if I forget my password?

Use the account recovery option through the MyQRMed account portal. If you still need help, contact MyQRMed support with the email address used for your account.

Products and everyday wear

What MyQRMed products are available?

MyQRMed offers QR medical alert bracelets, medical alert necklaces, dog tags, watch band IDs and ID kits. Product availability may vary over time.

Should I choose a bracelet, necklace or dog tag?

Choose the style you are most likely to wear consistently. A bracelet is visible on the wrist. A necklace or dog tag may suit people who prefer pendant-style jewellery. A watch band ID suits people who already wear a watch.

Are medical alert bracelets better than necklaces?

Not always. A bracelet is often more visible, especially on the wrist. A necklace or dog tag may be preferred by people who do not like wearing bracelets. The best option is the one you will actually wear.

Are MyQRMed bracelets adjustable?

Many MyQRMed bracelet styles are adjustable, but sizing depends on the product. Check the product page for the specific size range before ordering.

Are necklaces suitable for everyday wear?

Yes, MyQRMed necklaces and dog tags are designed for everyday use. Some people prefer them because they can be worn visibly or tucked under clothing.

Can I wear my MyQRMed ID in the shower?

MyQRMed IDs are designed for everyday wear, including water exposure. Product materials differ by style, so check the individual product page for details.

Are MyQRMed IDs waterproof?

MyQRMed IDs are designed for everyday wear, including water exposure. The QR code is permanently engraved, but product materials and care instructions can vary by style.

What happens if the QR code gets scratched?

If the QR code becomes badly damaged, it may become harder to scan. Keep the code clean and visible. If you are having scanning issues, contact MyQRMed support.

Do all products link to the same type of profile?

Yes. The profile system is the same whether you use a bracelet, necklace, dog tag, watch band ID, wallet card or sticker.

Can I buy an ID kit without jewellery?

Check the current shop for available products and kits. ID kits can be useful for extra visibility at home, in a wallet, or on items you regularly use.

Can I use a wallet card or sticker too?

Yes. Wallet cards, stickers and fridge magnets can give extra visibility beyond jewellery. They can be useful at home, in a wallet, on mobility aids or in other places where information may be helpful.

Choosing the right medical ID

What should I include in my medical profile?

Include information that would matter if you could not explain it yourself. This may include conditions, medications, allergies, emergency contacts, care notes, communication needs and relevant care team details.

What information should I avoid adding?

Avoid adding anything you are not comfortable being visible to someone who scans the QR code. Focus on information that would be useful if you could not explain your health details clearly.

Should I include my Medicare number?

Generally, you should avoid adding identity documents or numbers unless you are comfortable with that information being visible to someone who scans your QR code.

Should I include my full address?

Only include address details if you are comfortable with that information being visible to someone who scans the QR code. Many people choose to include emergency contacts instead.

Is a QR medical ID better than an engraved medical ID?

For most people, a QR medical ID is the stronger choice — it shows a full, updateable profile with conditions, medications, allergies and emergency contacts, not just a few fixed words. Engraving is simple and readable with no phone, which suits one short, unchanging line as a backup. If your details ever change, or there is more than a tag can hold, a QR ID is the better fit.

What is the main benefit of a QR medical ID?

A QR medical ID can link to a fuller, updateable medical profile. This gives more room than engraving for medications, allergies, conditions, emergency contacts and care notes.

What is the main benefit of engraving?

Engraving can be read by eye with no phone or internet, which makes it a useful no-tech backup for one short, fixed line. The trade-off is space: it cannot hold a medication list, care notes or contacts, and it has to be re-made whenever details change — which is where a QR profile does more.

Can QR and engraving work together?

Yes. Some people prefer to have one critical line visible and use a QR profile for the fuller information. MyQRMed focuses on the QR profile so details can be updated online.

Who should consider a medical alert ID?

A medical alert ID may be useful for people with medical conditions, severe allergies, regular medications, blood thinners, communication needs, memory issues, disability-related support needs or emergency contact requirements.

Is a medical alert ID only for emergencies?

No. A medical alert ID may also help during hospital visits, appointments, travel, support work, community access or situations where someone else needs accurate information quickly.
